# Onboarding a contractor

> A checklist for partners connecting a new contractor: plan, connect link, approval, provisioning and routing.

1. **Plan.** The contractor needs Light AI Pro (or a Pro trial). Sell or confirm that first.
2. **Link.** Create a connect link with your id for them as `external_reference` (for example a HighLevel locationId) and a `redirect_uri` on your verified domain.
3. **Approve.** Send the link, or open it together on a call. The owner signs in or signs up, then approves. Links are single-use and expire within 7 days.
4. **Provision.** On `grant.created` with `data.object.status: active` (or the redirect with `grant_status=active`), store the grant id and `organization` id.
5. **Confirm** (unbound links only). A link without an organization stays `pending` until you confirm the organization name the owner approved with: `POST /v1/partner/grants/{id}/confirm`.
6. **Route.** Every event for that contractor carries `grant.external_reference`. Send `Light-AI-Organization` on every call you make for them.
7. **Sync.** Backfill with the list endpoints (`sort=updated_asc`), then follow webhooks or `/v1/events`. See [Pagination & sync](https://docs.light-ai.app/pagination).

## Talking points for the contractor

- They see exactly what you can access before approving, and can disconnect any time.
- If you ask for `mockups:write`, mockups you generate use **their** credits, up to the spend cap they control (200 credits a day and 2,000 a month by default).
- Quote links (`quotes:share_link`) and long-lived image links (`quotes:asset_links`) are separate opt-ins; ask only if you need them.
